The Colorado House passed a bill Monday that would curtail sudden price increases — but only after limiting the measure to when the governor has issued a disaster declaration.

A bill that would empower the Colorado Attorney General’s Office to go after price gouging in grocery stores passed the House on Monday in a party-line vote, with Democrats in favor and Republicans opposed.

Democrats wanted the price-gouging protections to be in place all the time, not just during declared disasters, but they watered it down to get Gov. Polis on board.
