President Donald Trump threatened to withhold "large scale" federal funding from California if a trans girl athlete was allowed to compete in state finals, contravening one of his executive orders.Trump said he would call Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom to address the issue and would order local authorities to intervene and prevent the person from competing.

Trump is referring to an eleventh-grade trans athlete from Jurupa Valley High School near Riverside, who won the Division 3 girls long jump and triple jump and placed seventh in high jump at her Southern Section championship qualifying meet earlier this month. The championship meet is this coming weekend.
