The Batman 2 director Matt Reeves has confirmed that the sequel will start filming this year, offering some reassurance to fans after the announcement of a new delay in the production. Last month, Warner Bros revealed the film's release date has been pushed back a full year, and it's now set to open in theaters on October 1, 2027.

The Batman 2 release date delays prompted rumors about why the script is taking so long, and director Matt Reeves may have confirmed one of them.

Reeves and his 6th & Idaho production company became the initial first look deal inked by Warner Bros Pictures Group Co-Chairs/CEOs Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy in August 2022 after their hire.

The Batman 2 delay was announced just towards the end of 2024, pushing the film from October 2026 to October 2027. The film, which stars Robert Pattinson is the sequel to the $772 million USD grossing 2022 movie. Watch Reeves’ full interview below.
