South Korean President Lee Jae Myung is set to meet US President Donald Trump today to hold talks on trade and defence cooperation. The August 25 summit comes after a July trade deal where Washington agreed to bring down its reciprocal tariff on South Korea to 15 per cent from the earlier proposed 25 per cent and extend the reduced rate to South Korean cars,

After a one-day meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba in Tokyo, Lee arrived in Washington, DC, on Sunday ahead of an official working-level meeting at the White House with Trump. It will be the first time the two heads of state meet.

Lee met with Sen. Andy Kim (D-N.J.), the first Korean American elected to Congress, and other compatriots upon his arrival in Washington for his first summit with Trump on Monday, which is expected to discuss security, trade and other crucial issues between the two nations.
