OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — U.S. Rep. Don Bacon, a Republican from Nebraska, announced Monday he will not seek reelection next year amid an increasingly polarized political climate.

Congressman Don Bacon said he will not seek re-election in the House in 2026. Though he he said he could still win his seat for a sixth term if he wanted, saying he has the support but that his main motivation for not seeking re-election comes from wanting to spend more time with his family.

Nebraska Rep. Don Bacon, a Republican with a military background and a willingness to occasionally buck President Donald Trump, announced Monday that he won’t seek a sixth term, boosting Democrats’ hopes of winning his purple district in the ruby-red state.
