Retzlaff made the decision to withdraw from BYU after facing a seven-game suspension related to a violation of the school's honor code. That suspension stemmed from allegations of sexual assault, which were later dismissed in a civil lawsuit, and BYU's strict policy prohibiting premarital sex, a rule Retzlaff admitted to violating.

Retzlaff, who spent two years with the Cougars, officially withdrew from BYU in July after a violation of the honor code threatened his season. The redshirt senior, who was in trouble with the school for engaging in premarital sex, had reportedly been looking to transfer schools as a result.

Tulane reportedly has a new quarterback on campus with BYU's Jake Retzlaff transferring to play for the Green Wave as a walk-on this season, according to ESPN's Pete Thamel. Retzlaff led BYU to an 11-2 record last season as he completed 213 of 368 pass attempts for 2,947 yards, 20 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
