Congressional Republicans are working to pass a massive, 1,116-page piece of legislation – titled the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” – that includes cuts to SNAP.

This bill proposes significant changes to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), aiming to increase work requirements for beneficiaries. Currently, adults aged 18 to 54 without dependents must meet work requirements of 80 hours per month to receive SNAP benefits.

If passed into law, the bill would push 7.6 milion people off Medicaid, according to the Congressional Budget Office. Cuts and new conditions for SNAP food aid would save $300 billion over ten years. Trump's 2017 tax cuts would be made permanent, costing $2 trillion over the next decade.
