For the first time since revealing last week that the Trump administration began freezing its federal research funding, the University of California, Los Angeles has put a number on how much is at risk.

The announcement came as UCLA reached a $6 million settlement with three Jewish students and a Jewish professor who sued the university, arguing it violated their civil rights by allowing pro-Palestinian protesters in 2024 to block their access to classes and other areas on campus.

UCLA is facing a $584 million federal grant suspension by the Trump administration after a civil rights probe found it failed to address antisemitism on campus. The funding freeze affects major research agencies and threatens student programs,
