San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy signed a sizable contact extension last week, and not everyone was convinced his performance justified the hefty price tag that made him the seventh-highest paid quarterback in the NFL on an annual basis.

Remember last week, when it was first reported that the 49ers and quarterback Brock Purdy had agreed to a five-year, $265 million contract? On the heels of that news, there was a loud and angry chorus from near and far, all singing the same three-syllable word:

The 49ers, somewhat uncharacteristically, already brokered contract extensions before summer break for their three most prominent leaders: Purdy (five years, $265 million), Kittle (four years, $76.4 million) and Warner (three years, $63 million).
