New Yorkers are set to miss more heavy showers this holiday weekend after endless downpours have dampened May, so far. Whilst Saturday looks to be a little overcast, it should stay largely dry, before some strong sunshine emerges on Sunday and into Memorial Day with highs finally climbing into the 70s for the holiday.

City officials unveiled a summer safety plan aimed at keeping locals safe “via land, air, and sea”, with city beaches officially opening Saturday for Memorial Day weekend.

A Memorial Day service at the Cicero Cemetery, 8554 Brewerton Road precedes the parade at 10:30 a.m. Parade will begin at 11 a.m. at Brewerton Road and end at the American Legion on Legionnaire Drive. There will be a memorial service at the Legion monument followed by a lunch.

There will be no UPS delivery and pickup services on Memorial Day, May 26, 2025, but the UPS Store may be open at select locations. UPS Express Critical is available. Most banks will be closed on Memorial Day, according to The Federal Reserve.

"Every day is Memorial Day for those of us that served in combat," said Army Ranger veteran Mark Sheridan, an 83-year-old Purple Heart recipient.

The National Weather Service forecasts mixed weather for New York boroughs, including showers and high rip current risk along the southeast coast, with sunny spells expected by Memorial Day.
