India's trade deal with Britain is a sign of New Delhi's new gradual shift to opening up its markets while shielding crucial sectors from competition and could be its template for future agreements, government officials and analysts said on Friday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on an official two-day visit to the Maldives, on Friday said that the two countries have launched negotiations on India-Maldives Free Trade Agreement (IMFTA). In addition to this, India has decided to extend the Line of Credit (LoC) of Rs 4,850 crore to Maldives.
