Germany's Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul said on Friday that the situation in the Gaza Strip has become "unbearable" and he fears this could lead to the further diplomatic isolation of Israel. What will be decisive is how quickly the situation in Gaza improves,

Germany, traditionally a staunch ally of Israel, has been increasingly critical of Israel’s actions in Gaza. But while it has insisted that Israel must do more to increase aid supplies, Wadephul addressed his appeal to end the war primarily to Hamas.

The German foreign minister called the situation in Gaza "beyond imagination" and said Israel needs to show it is not pursuing a policy of expulsion and annexation. Meanwhile, a US special envoy prepares to visit Gaza.
