After a four-year-long case, the New York State Attorney General Letitia James announced a $600,000 settlement with luxury fitness company Equinox Group over its membership cancellation process.

Equinox Group will pay up to $250 in refunds to former customers as well as $600,000 in penalties after settlement with customers who filed complaints, the attorney general announced on Friday.

But Equinox and its sister brand SoulCycle made quitting the gym extra difficult and ran afoul of state and federal consumer protection laws, according to New York Attorney General Letitia James.
