The debate over whether Coca-Cola should use high-fructose corn syrup or cane sugar in its signature cola obscures an important fact: Consumers are increasingly looking for Coke with no sugar at all.

After four decades drinking Coca-Cola sweetened with corn syrup, Americans are going to get the chance to buy the soda made from domestic cane sugar.

Coca-Cola confirmed Tuesday that it was expanding its product range to include an offering sweetened with cane sugar in place of traditional high-fructose corn syrup. The company clarified cane sugar wouldn’t replace the high-fructose corn syrup Coca-Cola has used since the 1980s in its staple beverage in the U.S. market.
