The European Parliament has approved a resolution condemning systematic repression of human rightsin Iran. The resolution, tabled by Labour MEP Daniel Attard and others, denounces the Iranian regime’s repression of human rights and persecution of minorities. It also called for increased financial support for Iranian civil society.

Algerian lawmakers accused the European Parliament of political inference. They have also cast doubt on whether their motivations had to do with French-Algerian novelist Boualem Sansal's well-being or “harming the image of Algeria.
