A lawsuit filed by Pepperdine University against Netflix over Running Point, its soon-to-launch comedy series based on a semi-fictionalized Los Angeles pro basketball team named the Waves, accuses the streaming giant and production company Warner Bros.

Pepperdine University sued Netflix and Warner Bros. Discovery on Thursday, claiming their upcoming comedy series about a Los Angeles pro basketball team called the Waves violates the school's trademarks.

The lawsuit claims the show promotes themes that don’t correspond to the university’s values, including alcohol and substance use, sexual innuendo and imagery, and foul language.

Pepperdine University filed a federal lawsuit Thursday against Netflix and Warner Bros. Entertainment, alleging the companies infringed on the university's trademarks in their upcoming series "Running Point.

Pepperdine says "Running Point," a Netflix comedy show starring Kate Hudson, stole the name and colors of its NCAA basketball team.
