SAN DIEGO — Red Sox starter Brayan Bello ’s changeup was considered his best secondary pitch as he advanced through the minor league system. It was his second most used pitch during his first full season in the big leagues in 2023 behind only his sinker. Opponents batted just .196 with a .291 slugging percentage against it.

The Sox are hot, in prime position for a playoff push over the final quarter of the season, so in Bregman’s view, that is where his focus needs to be.
