Arielle Konig, 36, survived the March 24 incident when her husband, Gerhardt Konig, allegedly tried to throw her off a cliff in Oahu, Hawaii, PEOPLE previously reported.

Gerhardt Konig, 46, who lives on Maui, was arrested Monday night and has been charged with second-degree attempted murder. He made an initial court appearance on Thursday but did not enter a plea.

Gerhardt Konig's not guilty plea is "a substantive response to the allegation that he tried to kill his wife," his attorney, Thomas Otake, said in a statement.

The petition for a restraining order said that in December, Konig accused his wife of having an affair. On March 24 during their recent trip, Konig suggested they go on a hike, the petition said.
