Southern California Edison is examining the role of an idle transmission line near the area where the fire started.

Edison International’s utility said it is looking at whether a decommissioned power line started the Eaton wildfire as part of a probe into the cause of the blaze that razed more than 9,000 structures near Los Angeles.

California utility company Southern California Edison on Thursday said its equipment “may be associated with” the ignition of the Hurst Fire, which burned alongside the Eaton and Palisades fires during January’s Los Angeles firestorms.

A California utility says its equipment likely sparked a small wildfire in Los Angeles that broke out the same day as two massive blazes in the area killed at least 29 people and destroyed thousands of homes.

Southern California Edison (SCE), a subsidiary of Edison International, said on Thursday that it was probing whether its equipment was associated with the ignition of two Los Angeles-area wildfires this year.
