Greece’s government has declared a state of emergency on Santorini after hundreds of undersea earthquakes shook the resort island for nearly a week.

On February 3, 2025, in Santorini, Greece, @irakli.beridze shared a video of a landslide triggered by earthquake tremors. In the video, the ground rumbles as landslides occur in the Caldera following a series of earthquakes.

Residents have been warned to avoid indoor gatherings, check escape routes, stay away from cliffs and to drain swimming pools to reduce potential structural damage to buildings in the event of a large earthquake.

On Tuesday, 4th February, tremors with a magnitude of 4.7 were recorded on Santorini, causing panic among both residents and tourists. A spontaneous, mass evacuation commenced, resulting in significant chaos at the port.
