Ten BalticSea cables have been damaged since 2023, affecting Estonia, Finland, Sweden, Germany and Lithuania. At least two incidents involved ships later accused of dragging their anchors.
An undersea fibre optic cable between Latvia and Sweden was damaged on Sunday morning, likely as a result of "external influence", Latvian public broadcaster LSM reported, citing the cable operator.
Estonia and Finland are working closely with the European Union, NATO, the International Maritime Organization (IMO), and other Baltic Sea countries to curb the shadow fleet's activities.
