When patients die, CEOs rarely get charged. Why it’s different in the Oxford Center case. The state’s pursuit of murder charges against the CEO of the Oxford Center where an unregulated treatment led to the death of a 5-year-old boy is rare, Michigan legal experts say.

Oxford Center CEO Tami Peterson was arraigned on a charge of second-degree murder Tuesday after a 5-year-old boy died in a hyperbaric chamber explosion at the facility earlier this year.

Tamela Peterson, 58, of Brighton, is one of three employees charged with second-degree murder with an alternate charge of manslaughter, to be determined by the jury.
