San Diego police arrested a suspected sexual predator during San Diego Pride over the weekend, the department said Tuesday.

Around a quarter of a million people typically attend the annual Pride parade, the largest single-day civic event in the region

San Diego Pride kicked off the weekend with the Spirit of Stonewall Rally, honoring activists and organizations for their work in advocating for LGBTQ+ rights and celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots.

The city has been hurrying to implement a flurry of new fees, tax hikes and fine increases to pay for its $6 billion budget.

Despite funding shortfalls and months of controversy surrounding San Diego Pride’s leadership, the organization’s annual weekend celebration is nearly here — with the two-day festival set to bring in even more attendees than last year.

The streets of Hillcrest will be filled with floats, pride flags and hundreds of people on Saturday, July 16 to kick off San Diego Pride.

SPARTA Pride, a national nonprofit focused on supporting trans service members and veterans, is partnering with Pride.
