HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, N.J. — A small earthquake in New Jersey rattled the New York City metropolitan area Saturday night. The U.S. Geological Survey said the tremor had a magnitude of 3.0. It hit in the New Jersey suburb of Hasbrouck Heights, less than 8 miles west of Central Park, at a depth of about 6.2 miles.

A second minor earthquake has rattled the New York metropolitan area within several days. The 2.7 magnitude quake struck Tuesday afternoon near Hillsdale, New Jersey, northwest of the Bronx.

Residents in New York and New Jersey were shaken — literally — late Saturday night by a minor earthquake. According to the United States Geological Survey, a magnitude 3.0 earthquake struck Saturday night with its epicenter in eastern New Jersey, just north of Newark.
