Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on Friday presented his reasoning behind extending invitation for G7 summit to PM Narendra Modi. Highlighting India's economic prowess, he said that it "made sense" to have the fifth largest economy at the table.

The move has drawn criticism—particularly from Sikh advocacy groups—amid an ongoing investigation into the 2023 killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, in which Indian government involvement is suspected.
