The British government has announced its support of London's bid to host the 2029 athletics world championships. London hosted the biannual premier track-and-field event in 2017 at the London Stadium,

The championships were last held in London in 2017 — five years after the Olympics and Paralympics came to the capital.

The Cleveland Guardians opened the second half of season with a win. "This is a period of high significance and importance," GM Mike Chernoff said.

Guardians All-Star outfielder Steven Kwan was out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Athletics due to nagging right wrist soreness. Manager Stephen Vogt said Kwan's status is day-to-day and that he has been dealing with wrist issues for over a month.

The Guardians may well be sellers at the trade deadline this season. Cleveland sits 12 games behind the Tigers in the American League Central and 4.5 games back in the Wild Card chase. They won six of their final ten heading into the Break which has them positioned squarely on the fence in terms of buying or selling at the deadline.
